This is right up my alley, I am in the Air Force and my job just happens to be a Fuels Specialist aka POL. Jet fuel is a kerosene based fuel, ala diesel, only much cleaner. There are various grades of jet fuel, the USAF flies on JP8, which has a flashpoint of over 100 degrees. The commercial airliners use Jet A, only difference being absence of certain additives the military requires for safer handling and performance such as Fuel System Icing Inhibitor (FSII), which prevents the entrained water, which is in all fuel, from freezing at higher altitudes, kind of antifreeze for fuel. So as to using it in your car, I would highly discourage it. Jet fuel would most likely destroy your spark plugs if not more. You would be better off using AVGAS, but only in small amounts.
Jet fuel is for jet engines.

Re: Jet Fuel ?

From what I understand, most jet fuels have a 15-20 octane-equivalent rating. (i.e. they ignite very easily and would quickly blow your engine.)

Re: Jet Fuel ?

could be a good thing on gas mileage but proly would end up destroying the car, but hey if cars can run on vegetables why not jet fuel

As stated above...jet fuel is kerosene, which is very hard to ignite. It won't blow up an engine from all of the "power"...it will foul the plugs horribly though.

Re: Jet Fuel ?

Don't put jet fuel in your car dude! Better to use AV gas I use it but I have forged pistons and zero gap rings.IF you do use AV gas be sure to mix it with super unleaded because the AV gas is so dry it will hurt your fuel system and melt your pistons if you don't.

Re: Jet Fuel ?

Well, I guess IMO if the car runs fine on high octane gas why not just stick to running that? Unless the car doesn't run well on gas anything else is kind of a waste I think...

AV Gas will not destroy your fuel system. But who would waste the money to run pure AV Gas in a stock street car anyways. Check the dollar per gallon.
I run a few gallons in a full tank of pump preimium to bring the octane rating up to between 102 and 104. Anything more is a waste and fouls the plugs. Unless it was free, I wouldn't put it in a stock motor. I only use it in my Z with a built 385, yes I said 385... - Mark

The old farm machinery and trucks used to run on Kerosene years ago because it was cheaper back then. They had a dual fuel tank Gasoline on one side and Kero on the other. They would start the engine on Gasoline and let it warm up then switch over to Kero. Then just before shutting the engine off they would switch back to gasoline for a short time to burn the remaining kero out of the carb.

You could prob. run it without damaging the engine (other than possibly fouling plugs) as long as the engine is good and hot before trying to run it & you dont turn the engine off and let it cool down with a tank full of Kero Base Fuel, or you might not get it started again.
Spark ignition is not hot enough to ignite it alone (unless you preheat the Kero. to near the flash point) and very doubtful you have the compression to ignite it like a diesel engine does.

Power gain? - very doubtful
Economical? - Not

I see no real advantage with it
