switched fuse?

Hi there,

I want to install a under-the seat dvd-player an headrestmonitors in my Jeep GJ 2002. For this I want to create a new circuit with a add-circuit-fuse. But in order not to drain my battery while the enigine is off, I want to use a switched (spare) fuse. Is there any available, or are they always powered regardless of the engine is on or not? Or is the only way to have switched power to tap it from the cigarette lighter? Any suggestions?
BTW, I can't use the regular stereo connection cause that is already occupied by my rb4 nav-radio.
Thanks

Re: switched fuse?

You first need to find out what the rated current draw is for the DVD unit and what ever else you will be powering from the circuit. Adding 2 or 3 amps to a circuit may not cause a problem but additional loads could overload the supply side wiring for the circuit you tap into. It is always best to run a separate circuit for a new toy. Find a bolt terminal away from the battery posts to do this if possible.

To find a switched fuse, use a test lite or multimeter to check for power to the fuse with key off and on.

There are tapping fuse holders that plug into the existing blade fuse holder and have a place for the fuse for the original circuit as well as a fuse for the new circuit. There is one of these in the top right corner of the page at this link http://selectproducts.com/shopsite_s...ml/page35.html
