ZEX Nitrous kits: good? bad? otherwise, Experiences

I recently saw a 95 civic with a basicaly stock 1.6L SOHC engine, running a ZEX dry kit, with a 55hp injector. I have a 98' ex, and with a swap to a gsr engine on the horizon, I would like to be ready to destroy the competition. Anyways, for now I was wondering are the ZEX kits as good as they look? If I go with the kit, would you reccomend the colder plugs that they have available? I also would like to get the Maximizer kit, that will give me another bottle and the fittings. zex kits are nice alot of my friend have them but they dont use them responsibly. if u put zex on a basically stock non built up engine and if u spray like everyday yea expect to have problems. personally i wouldnt put zex on my ex engine but a gsr should be ok. now im not an expert on this but common sense tells me u might want to build up some internals. my friend with a maxima put zex on his car, and my friend with a b16a (i dun remember the # after the a whatever) he put it in and well about blew himself up. the engine was old anyways.

personally id save up for a turbo. as the saying goes nitrous is the poor mans turbo

i've heard alot of good stuff about the zex kit. the only part i don't like about the kit is that when the system is armed, it will spray at wide open throttle, which is set at a certain rpm. other than that the system is the safest and pretty cheap too. just remember the %50 rule with your engine and nos. 50% of your overall hp is safe.

yes zex is very safe too. it will only spray when you floor it (thats the best way to describe it) our of all the n2o systems that would be the one i would get.

i prefer the NX system... much safer considering dry mist is a very good way to lean detonate a cylinder

Any kit will pray when you're at WOT, as long as you hook it up that way. I think a lot of people dont do it the right way to hoook it up and have problems.

I saw an early nineties model civic on horsepower TV the other day and they put the ZEX system on that car. They said why they had choosen this system, but I can't remember why. All I know is that they had choosen this system above all others because it was the best system for the money. Other than the ZEX system, all they added was an ignition system, cold air intake, and of course all of the little things (high power plug wires, exhaust, a few others). The kit came with a 55 shot and a 75 shot. They used the 55.

Actually the Nitrous would be safer on an D16Z6 EX motor over a GSR motor. The comp ratio is much lower on our EX motors then it is on a GSR. The EX motors I have seen work very well with F/I apps. Those D16 Series motor are strong fuckers that for sure. Now the tranny handling that much horse is another story.

I got my zex kit and installed on my d16 powered 91 hatch about a month ago, i love it. I've had no problems with it, but i dont spray it all the time either, I used the 55 HP jets .

If you get that ZEX i would also consider putting a performance intake manifold in because after a while of spraying you will blow.

If you want to just have Nitrous then Zex is the way to go, or if you are new the the street racing/import scene. If you plan to build up your motor and run with the big dogs then you might want to invest in something a little more powerful like NX or NOS. The Zex kit is the playschool of nitrous. It's so safe and easy to install a child could do it. The only disadvantage of it is you can only go up to 75hp jets before you have to get a new system because that's all the Zex kits go up to. So if you do build up your motor and want to use nitrous you'll have to buy a new kit. But for now Zex is pretty good, colder plugs, and invest in a bottle warmer, pressure gauge and maybe remote bottle opener. Peace

Just wondering, is it necessary to have a fuel pressure regulator to boost up the fuel pressure for the zex kit, so it doesn't run as lean, or does the control unit from the zex kit already takes care of that?
