new clutch
alrighty, so i'm ready to get a new clutch and i found one but i don't know if i should buy it.. its just the plate and disc.. can i use the stock release bearing and pilot bearing?? or will i need to get new ones? or will i have to wait and see? will i need an alignment tool too? its a stage 3 clutch so i'm jumping up a little in terms of pressure.. i'm guessing i should just buy it and then if i need any other parts for the install, i can go to the parts store and find them..

Re: new clutch
i don't have an extra tranny. i know a guy who's swapping in that ca i was posting about a while back so he's got a whole extra engine/tranny and everything. i just don't have the money to buy anything off him. i'm gonna just get by putting this clutch in. but i was thinking that all engaging and disengaging of my current clutch is really smooth so i might as well keep those, and buy the plate, disc and resurfaced flywheel (which he said he'd also give me). would i be ok using the stock bearings?

Re: new clutch
with both of my clutches that I've had, they have come with the alignment tool, pilot bushing, and throwout bearing.
ACT stage 1, and SPEC stage 3 both are great choices |

I just replaced mine and used the same bearings. (We couldn't get the old one out, and the new one was a different size anyways). It's workin just fine. When you get it out, tell me if it looked as bad as mine.

Re: new clutch
mine was worse when I took it out.
when I got the tranny about 10mm away from the engine, chunks of friction material that looked like steel wool fell out. (clutch fork pivot ball snapped spinning about 6k)...good thing I still smoked the WRX i guess. |

Re: new clutch
also the bearings will be fine to run again if they are working good now... its just like I said, when they start to fail you won't be driving too nice, and/or could mess up other parts there. Plus u can only change them with the transmission out.
If you don't really have the money to spend right now on all that extra shit and its working good now, just run the same ones. If it were my car I would be changing them..but I get the parts a lot cheaper then u and its easier to put them in... |

Re: new clutch
an alignment tool, and throw out bearing are less than $50 from advance.. good to replace while the tranny's off. don't forget to grease the shaft. Just do it and stop being cheap, it's all gonna be apart, just replace it now...

Re: new clutch
So what consist of this large amount of "bolt-ons" and what's the fine tuning? Also, does this stuff bring you 70hp?

Re: new clutch
pullys, alum. driveshaft, fidanza flywheel, full msd, electric fan, full exh., 1993 exhaust cam, sentra intake cam, JWT ecu, wideband o2, SAFC,
I wouldn't say 70hp, but I ran a 14.7 to the WRX's 15.0 I'm not trying to argue or anything, I was there, you weren't, no big deal. this is why I hate forums, everyone bitches about what everyone else says. |
