97 chevy c1500 will not start

I have a 97 chevy c1500 6cyl 4.3 it will not start. I have rerplaced the spark plugs and fule filter. I put new gas in it. I also hookes it up to a snap on machine and it reads no codes okay to drive. When I pour gas in the carburator it starts then stops. Some people say it could be the distributor cap and rotor others say the ignition control module. any ideas on what it could be?
Thanks
Dave

If it starts when you poor gas in the carb it sounds like you have a fuel delivery problem. When you had it tested for codes was it also checked for fuel pressure? That is where i would start. You may have a bad fuel pump or something going on with the relay?

It said the fuel pressure was good. And I checked the relay and it was fine. there is fuel coming through the lines.

You may have fuel, but hooking up a scanner does not always give you fuel pressure. I don't believe that truck has a fuel pressure sensor. You need to check with a physical guage hooked up to the fuel line. Then go back to basics. Cap, rotor, plugs, wires. No codes are set? Then look to no fuel. The computer will set a code for a bad injector or a missed spark. See how long you can keep it running by spraying Gum-Out into the intake. From what you have said already, I don't believe your pump is putting out adequate pressure. -Chris

I sprayed gumout in the trottle Body and it started right up . Left it run for about 35 minuted turned it off Tryed to start it again with out the spray would not start spray it and it started left it run again and truned it off tryed it start it again and even with the spray would not start. Iam gonna try again tommorrow. Do you think it could be something with the relay . this is a 97 6cyl 4.3 csfi . Thanks again for all your help . I do not have a fuel pressure gauge. The snap on is reading no codes okay to drive..

Thanks
Dave

Re: 97 chevy c1500 will not start

to start with you do not have a carb on a 1997 4.3
you have a throttle body injector (tbi)
If you spray or pour gas,or what ever down the tbi unit and it starts then you DO NOT have a spark, ign problem. You DO HAVE A FUEL system problem. The snap on scanner can only check power to the fuel pump relay and power at the pump. It can not check fuel pressure. You MUST connect a fuel pressure gauge onto the fuel rail test port and have key on engine off and get a fuel reading. That is the ONLY way the test for fuel pressure.
to me it sounds like a weak fuel pump

I'd put money on fuel pump. Just went through this last year with my 97.
