Electric Fans

I was wondering how many of you have up-graded to electric fans, for those of you who did: what kind did you use, where did you get them, how well do they work, and do they help out that much. Sorry for all the questions but i've never switched from clutch to electric before. Thanks in advance.

Re: Electric Fans

I installed a set of LS1 fans after my nelson tune. You have to have a controller, either Nelson, Delta Current Control or Painless, etc. Yes I gained mpg 1/2 to 1, and yes it was worth it. The ability of the engine to stay dead on the temp was amazing. Also the loss of the "Tornado," the electric fans are cooler. If you wat to go that way email me I can fill you in more.

Now I think I have read somewhere before that if you tow or use the truck for more than just everyday driving to go with something stronger than the LS1 fans. I do use my truck for towing and hauling stuff, nothing extreme though. And do the fans hold up well In off road situations.

Re: Electric Fans

in most cases, you also have to upgrade the alternator

Re: Electric Fans

If you go with the LS1 fans and do not have all the radio extras the 105 will stand up. But if you have any other add ons Blenderwizard is correct, got to 130Amp or 145Amp. Those larger alt's require a longer belt. A lot of the perfomance guys run the LS1 fans and are happy, some want the stock look of the 34" '05 GM fans but then you are talking $ to upgrade the rad, fans, controller, and the ALternator for sure. $700 min....

If I added the fans I think I would have to upgrade the Alt., I do have an aftermarket stereo and a small speaker set up, so it probably wouldnt hurt. Im probably coming due for one, the truck still has the original at almost 80k miles.

Re: Electric Fans

I just got back from the Chevy dealer (had to get a new key for the Malibu). I looked at some vehicles. The '06 Tahoe has a double electric fan on it. The alternator also looks a bit more beefy. The only Silverado that had its hood up was a deisel and it had the clutch fan. Now I'm going to see if I can retrofit an '06 Tahoe fan into the Superado!! This may take awhile!!!
