Thermostat

I have a 2000 Taurus with Durotec 24V DOHC engine. Engine overheats and spews coolant out the expansion tank. I thought I would try replacing the thermostat first (cheap part) but I can not find it. I followed the rad hose to the engine under inlet manifold but it attaches to a metal manifold with other hoses and temp sensors. The manifold does not look big enough to hold a thermostat. Am I missing some thing. Haynes manual does not have pic of ohc engine thermostat location. Could some on who has been there give me some hints on where the thermostat is.

the thermo housing is at the end of the upper radiator hose where it is attaches to the intake manifold (three bolts hold it in place). note the position of the thermo since it is oval shape and put the new one in exactly how the old one is postioned (the small pin valve must be towards the top of the thermo housing). the three bolts have a torque setting of 71-106 inch pounds ohc (over head cam) engine. flush the system as well. g'luck.
