Question engine swap?

I have an 87 camaro with a 2.8 and was wondering what would be the best V-6 to put in cause cant afford a v-8. Gas is to expensive.

Re: engine swap?

The v-8 has more power, thus it doesn't hafto work as hard or turn as many rpms to create the same power as the v-6 would. In a thread around here, people were saying the mileage is pretty equal. Search for it, and theres even a thread where people post there engine, and what gas mileage they get.

Edit.. check this link out.

Best one would be a 3.4, I think that you wouldnt gave to change the transmission, if you feel like changing the transmission, THEN you can go ahead and buy the best V6 right now.. the 3.8, but that requires a new transmission as well like I said.

Re: engine swap?

Might want to do more research then that man. Im not saying its a bad engine, but getting one responce on an internet forum for a big decision is a risk for anything. Goodluck though with whatever you go with.

Well considering the situation he's in, I'd have to agree that the 3.4 would be the cheapest and wisest engine upgrade he could choose. Unless he's talking about swapping out the tranny as well, then the only other choice he would have is the 3.1. The 2.8's, 3.1's, and 3.4's all share the same block pattern (60 degrees) and are interchangable with one anothers transmissions. So a 3.4 would really be the wisest route to go since it would bolt up just fine.

It would require just as much fabrication as a V8 swap would.
