Top Speed Is Pissing Me Off!!!!

Ok guys, ever since i have joined the 2 big hyundai forums, there is always that thread that pops up about what the tiburons top speed is... i have heard estimates of the 6-spd manual reaching up too 165 and some saying only 130........ if any 1 can help me out on this one it would probably be Scottsee, if im correct in thinking he works at a hyundai dealer........ I would like to know what the top speeds are on all of the V6 models, any feedback what so ever will be apprieciated.......... THANKS

ohh my god... not another one of these threads....

ive hit 135 in my V6... some (so they say) have hit 140, 145.. and i think some dude said he hit 152...

but holy shit how fast do you need to go on public roads...
goin 135 is scary as shit...

yah, my speeding days are prob over to, and i just started. learned my lesson a few days ago, on the way to driving school none the less. well, i was doing about 70 and i knew that there was this corner semi sharp corner coming up so i slowed down. well, i must of not slowed down at all, bc when i looked at my speedometer i was still doing 70 and all of a sudden as i took that corner my car went into the other oncoming lane. luckly the oncoming vheicle was far enough up that i could get back into my own lane, even though they did flash their lights at me. i was only in the other lane for like 5-10 sec, but those few seconds scared the shit out of me.

dont worry,earnt my lesson. only keep the speeding to once and a while instead of every night.

I wont lie. I speed every day and at least once or twice on Sundays.

But I can also claim no tickets, accidents. Anyways, hardest I've run my baby ('01, i 4) was 132mph. Took a little while at WOT and around 5500rpms, but still fun as hell. Gauge needle was moving up, but VERY slowly. Giving maybe another minute or two, I could have hit 140+, but thats more time running her with that rpm stress than I want to do. Normally, I hit around 120 fairly quickly, but much more than that and mph increases rather sluggish.

Yeah I used to speed a lot when I first got my tiburon. The first two weeks of owning it I had to run from the cops (stupid), but I was far enough ahead of them when they turned around that I knew I could do it. I just save it for the track. It's much more safe and you don't have to worry about other cars or cops for that matter.

well from what ive heard the Auto will reach over the 140 mark and the 6 spd will be even higher because it can go past redline....

yes good info man thanks, but i dont agree that the auto will reach 165, without the 6 spd being able to keep up

Well, from what I had always heard/read in magazines etc the Tib was "electronically limited" (governor?) to 137mph, regardless of tranny. People don't seem to agree though, and I don't actually own one so I can't test it (not that I would).

its not governed, its got a fuel cut off...
i dunno if it actually has the potential to make it to 160-165, youre gonna have to be at WOT for a fucking while to get the car up there...

and you never want to go above redline in any transmission of a car...

Well then based on personal experience, my RD, I4, Manual Tranny (w/ intake and catback as major performance mods) will reach 140mph. Wont go past that on a level surface. Can't get much more factual than actually doing something.

As far as this thread goes, maybe I am wrong, but all those top speeds are calculated. If thats what you wanted Speeddemon, well then your set. If not, then hopefully you can work with the above part of this post.
