few questions about 92 isuzu rodeo...

Hello guys, I got the username because I was on the tracker forum about my girlfriends car. Anyways I just recently got a 92 rodeo, 4 wheel drive, 3.1tbi 5 speed. Its got brand new 31x 10.5" tires all around, inspected til may of 2006, and it runs really well. The things it needs/needed are...pads and rotors in the front, and an exhaust gasket. The front brakes looked pretty bad, and the friend I bought it off of already had the pads and rotors, just hadnt put them on. Well after going through hell taking apart the hubs, and struggling to get the old rotors seperated from the hubs, I finally got it taken care of. Do you know that round disc in the hub that screws into the one behind it, it has three screws on it? Well the second I tried to turn the screws they stripped, so we drilled them out and re tapped the threads and got all new screws, that took care of that problem. While trying to take the drivers side caliper off the bracket, the caliper bolt broke off inside the bracket, so we had to torch the crap out of it, throw water on it, torch it, water it and finally got it out. Well I luckily work at autozone and we dont stock the caliper bolts for that so I ordered two different sets hoping that one would be right. Well the ones that were right werent the same ones that the computer listed for a 92, I couldnt figure out why. Well, when I got it all back together and was going to put the new pads on, I discovered that somebody put a caliper, caliper bracket, and pads from a 94 rodeo on the drivers side, and left the original caliper and pads on the passengers side! Well, the drivers side has completely different pads, they are bigger and rounded at the bottom and hang over the edge of the rotor by about a half inch(must be the 94 has bigger rotors), and this also explains why the caliper bolts that fit it werent for a 92. This has solid bolts on the top and bottom, and the passengers side has a different setup where it has a bottom bolt, and then a different top one that it appears they hinge on. Well, I ended up just temperarily putting the old pads back on the passengers side because they were hardly worn, buying brake pads for a 94 rodeo with rear disc brakes to put on the drivers side, and just put it back together so I would be able to move the thing around and stuff, its not on the road yet but will be hopefully before winter. Now, I already have my hands on the correct caliper for the drivers side, and I have the right bolts for it as well. My problem is, I cannot find a caliper bracket to save my life. I have called all of the local junkyards, parts stores, and the only place I can find it is Napa, but it comes with a loaded caliper, the bracket and the pads, well that kind of sucks because it is $90 and I have to buy a new set of pads anyways because when I put the new caliper on Im doing the pads on both side (the correct pads) and I just want to get everything back the way it should be. If I buy the caliper from autozone it is only going to cost me $45 plus my 20% discount, so it wont even cost me $40. I am eventually just going to get a new caliper for the passengers side as well, along with new hardware, and just be done with it. It will have new calipers, caliper bolts, pads and rotors. I am having a hell of a time finding this bracket, because it is indeed different from a 94. Someone must have went to a junkyard or something and just got the complete setup from a 94, except the rotor and hub. I was just in shock when I found this out, I cant believe somebody would put completely different caliper and pads on one side, and they are even close to being right, unbelieveable! What I have gathered from looking up parts at work is that a caliper bracket from a 91-92 rodeo, passport, amigo, and isuzu truck will all work, but no junkyard in my area has one. My question is do you guys have any idea where I can get my hands on one of these? I am pretty desperate here. The friend I bought it from never touched the brakes on it since he had it, so he had no idea about any of this. He drove it the whole time he owned it and had no clue, trust me if he cobbled this together I wouldnt be very happy with him, buts its not his fault. Also, I just wanted to know in general is the 92 a good year? Is the 3.1 motor in these a good motor? I am aware that it is a gm motor, I have a 92 corsica that also has a 3.1 in it and that thing is bullet proof, you cant hurt it. I was just wondering what are some common problems with these? Anything I should watch for? I see it seems to be leaking a little bit of oil from the valve covers up onto the intake, I can take care of that myself. Thanks alot guys, I appreciate your time, and hope that you can be some help to me, and I will also be able to help you out!

My guess is that no one is replying because your post is too hard to read. Try breaking it down into paragraphs so it is easier to follow. I know some people might just open your thread, look at the length of your post and the lack of breaks and not even read it.

Re: few questions about 92 isuzu rodeo...

I had a 91 3.1L Rodeo - GREAT truck!

Can't tell you squat about the calipers - sorry. All the brake work I had done was still under original warranty - never had to replace brakes after 3rd warranty set was put on, that was do to the rotors having warped. Those things wore like iron.

That engine was something strong, never had an issue in the 11yrs of owning it, can't remember now how many miles it had, but it was over 150-160k.

It had only 1 oil leak in the time of owning it.

Only reason I traded it was I needed a camper and had to have an open bed truck. We miss it though.

try here,

http://www.car-part.com/
if you can find a caliper listed on here, you may be able to contact the same place and ask about all the mounting brackets and anything else you may need

Re: few questions about 92 isuzu rodeo...

I just got a door regulator from a Rodeo in a bone yard and I think it was a 92. I'm going back there this weekend, I'll let you know if they have what you need. The yard is in the Chicago area.

thanks for the help guys, I tried to order a set of morse loaded calipers at work about a week ago, and we couldnt get them. Well I tried it today, and we can, so they will be in on Friday. Everyone who works there seems to think that they will come with the brackets, because loaded means everything, calipers, brackets, pads, bolts and everything, and the set is only $80!! Thats a steal considering that each caliper seperately is $45.99, plus pads, bolts, everything else it tons more, so for less then the price of two calipers, you get everything. So Im keeping my fingers crossed, and hopefully friday I will have everything I need, Im going to be rather dissapointed if they dont come with brackets. Now I just gotta come up with the money, because I dont get paid until next friday!
