Question broken window regulator.

Hi

I searched all over looking for a fix for a broken window regulator.
It appears the dealer wants to sell the entire assembly only.

But the motor works fine - everything is intact except for the bracket broke off from the long worm screw.

One thread in another forum discussed fixing this by using cotter pins to be fastened the bracket to the worm screw.

I tried this but I thought the worm screw attached from the bottom and push the window up. Now I understand that the worm screw actually pulls the window up from the top of the door pannel.

Does anyone know of any diagrams of the net that show how this is supposed to fasten together?

I also searched for manuals on how to do this but couldn't find any.

I wrote to Chrysler about this problem because it seems to be very common -- they claim there is no general recall.

I was quoted between $6-$325.00 for the replacement part from various dealers. Later I found out six dollar part was only a small plastic clip. After doing lots of research, I found an aftermarket replacement part (which includes the entire assembly -- motor, worm screw, guide rail and bracket) for $150.00 which I ordered to be sent to the mechanic.

After a week, part never arrived. I went back to the place that I bought the aftermarket part and instead of giving me a refund they gave me a price correction on my card which I still believe is a mistake and they've probably charge me twice but I haven't got the statement yet.

I took this as a further sign that I need to figure out how to fix this problem myself so that I can teach others to fix it as well.

Maybe I'm from the old school but I don't believe everything needs to be replaced instead of repaired. Today nobody wants to repair anything! They just want to replace it. Ideally, dealers what you're buying a new car every to three years.

I bought my Jeep for the purpose of adding off-road accessories. I intend to keep it for some time -- there's no sense of spending thousands of dollars on aftermarket modifications only to change cars every year or two.

I would be very grateful if anyone could share any insight into this common problem. Do you know of any diagrams, books, manuals, pictures that illustrate the set up?

Thanks very much for reading the thread.

best, M/
