A Few Questions...

I just bought a 99' Eclipse GS about a month ago and it runs great but there are a few things that worry me.

1. Just recently, I had a new alternator put in and new belts (except timing belt). When I got the car back, now when I rev it up in between 1500 and 2500 rpms it makes a kind of rattling noise. When I lift the hood and listen it sounds like its coming from the left maybe from one of the pulleys or somthing. It sounds kind of like a loose bicycle chain or something. Does anyone know what that sound could be coming from or what its caused by? Once the engine reaches around 3000 rpms + the noise seems to smooth out.

2. When I let the clutch out, shifting into any gear it kind of feels like something is loose. It makes a muffled clunking sound somtimes and I can feel it through the pedal. Somebody suggested maybe my throw out bearing is going bad?

3. The third thing is very minor I hope but when I drive over and uneven surface such as loose gravel, especially uphill I hear something rattle pretty loud about right under the passenger side seat. Could it just be the heat shield on the cat?

I would greatly appreciate any input on these problems. Any educated guess or real experience from the same problems would be very helpful. Thank-You.

Re: A Few Questions...

3) Sounds like its something underneath. Check the heat shields on the Downpipe also. All of mine were rusted through when I bought my car. Ended up just reclamping, and eventually cuttin them all off.

2) Where is the noise coming from? IDK

1) Check for loose anything. This could actually be part of #3. Something is loose, and is rattling in that rpm range. Our engines make a lot of vibrations in the lower rpm range. Just check around the car for anything loose.

Thanks, I just checked the heatshield on the down pipe and it was a little loose so I tightened it up and it hasnt made a noise since. I cant really tell where the noise from shifting is coming from but when I let the clutch out the car kind of jerks no matter how smooth I shift. Not like its slipping but somthing clunks when it engages.
