Post paint cracking

I was recently going to paint my dash the color of my car but one of my buddies told me i shouldnt because the dash is a little flexible/not solid so if you push on it it would crack the paint. hopefully you know what im talking about..... Ive looked at all the dash painting threads but i havent seen anythign about this yet. Im just scared its going to crack and look bad? if there is any pressure put on it.

Re: paint cracking

I've got the same idea, but I'm thinking some kind of dye would work better than paint. If someone on here knows of something better, let us know...

Re: paint cracking

I also would be interested to find something better than paint. When and if I do eventually get my car I want to paint the dash. So far I figure I'll do some of the solid parts but thats subject to change.

Re: paint cracking

Do some searching for vinyl dye. Some products used for vinyl dye also work well with doing carpet. I believe a few sites in the j-body book sell the stuff. Im almost positive that either winks or A plus performance will have it.

Re: paint cracking

Or, since you'll be pulling the dash to paint it propery, just glass it and the paint should stick to that quite nicely.

Oooh! Now that would look killer! It would take some time and effort, but I was thinking about doing the same thing with my dash, except maybe I would remove the vinyl completely from it and cut a few holes for gauges in the center of the dash.
