SKYLINE OR SILVIA IMPORT cheap

i'm goin into the military and im thinkin of ways i can scam my way into a badass car for cheap..

my recruiter says that i can import my car for free but it cant b driven on the streets unless it meets US regulations and bla bla bla
SOOOOOO
u think it would b possible to bring a skyline or a silvia and come back to america and get a junkyard infiniti skyline or a nissan 240sx and switch out the vins or wutever i need to do so i get it registered...
then i have two cars for less money...and not to mention i have a badass car from japan without going thru motorex or any other money hungry company

u all think it would work????????

Re: SKYLINE OR SILVIA IMPORT cheap

I thought there were actual car components to change. Not just lying about vin numbers.

You have to replace the windows in a skyline because they aren't up to U.S. Standards. You also have to switch the steering wheel from the right side of the vehicle to the left side. Then you need to reinforce the structural integrity of the vehicle, I.E. the chasis. You have to understand that in Japan/Okinawa they never drive over 50mph or so so their vehicles have different standards. Now, those are some heefty mods to do to a car but at the same time you can pick up a skyline in Japan for about 5-10k.

Another you have to understand. The military isn't going to move a vehicle back from japan/okinawa unless you rate it. And as an e2-e3 you aren't going to rate it. You'll have to pay for it out of your pocket.

Re: SKYLINE OR SILVIA IMPORT cheap

of course there are components to change...but who wants to spend all that money...i was hopin for a way around it..
-i thought maybe they would still ship it for me, but it would be for offroad use only when it gets to the states

Re: SKYLINE OR SILVIA IMPORT cheap

u dont have to move the steering wheel around. I see people here all the time driving on the right side. The have all the regerstation stickers and inspections. Im not sure on the windows though. Different states might also have different laws regarding those kinds of things though

Re: SKYLINE OR SILVIA IMPORT cheap

ya...i know cali is super strict on their cars but florida--where i live-- aint that bad, and i see ppl driving right hand driven all the time too...not to mentions the freakin mailman...i know the windshield has to b shatterproof...but i dont know wut else has to be done beyond that...maybe if i put in a roll cage or sumtin like that it would sturdy up the body for a 50+ mph crash and would fit US guidelines....the chassis has to b strong enuf for driving that fast even if the top speed in japan is 50....
top speed here is wut 75 and ive hit 135 in my 90 gs-t

i know emission standards in japan r like 3 times as hard as US...thats y cars go to the junkyard after like 5 yrs and we get all these nice engines for sale

Re: SKYLINE OR SILVIA IMPORT cheap

Obviously he is not going to be doing this "legally" so it doesn't matter what you need to do to make it legal. I thought about switching VINS from a 240 or something but it's really not worth the risk in my opinion. There are ony so many stupid cops. Eventually you will run into one who knows what you did and then you will lose the car and face legal problems (I think it's a felony to tamper with a vin). But hey, if your willing to risk it, go for it.

They are able to withstand impacts, but they are only built for about a max of 50mph crash. You have to understand they don't have the highway system we do here. And no it wouldn't be so much as a roll cage but more metal work. I know all this because I'm in the military and I have though of the same idea and started researching it. But however, it's not 30-40k to ship back. You can buy a container and have it shipped to a major port like LA for about four-five grand. Maybe less for just the car in a small container. The expensive comes in modifying the car to make it legal for the U.S.

Re: SKYLINE OR SILVIA IMPORT cheap

motox or motorx, not sure exactly, located in cali will be able to tell you exactly what to do since that is their buisness. They buy skylines from aus,jap and bringem over and legalize them to sell here.
