My 2000 Cadillac Deville has developed a problem with it's normal smooth operation. I drove it around all day and didn't have any problems with it. Then, after driving it home and letting it sit for abour two hours, I come out to start it, and it just cranks. After trying several times to start it, it does start and idles extremely rough. As if it doesn't know at which rpm to idle. Then, when I drive it, you can still feel it pulsing, raising the rpms ever so slightly even though there's even pressure on the foot feed. I let off the foot feed and it still pulses while slowing down. I asked a mechanic friend of mine his thoughts and he said that Cadillacs are known for vaccum problems, and that's probably what's wrong with it. I replaced the fuel filter and that didn't help. He also said that I should check the spark plugs, only problem is, I have no clue how to expose them to get them out on this type of engine. (My normal driver is a 94 Chevy truck 350, and I have no problem navigating around those types of engines). These new Cadillac engines are something else. I would take it to the dealer, however, a tight budget is forcing me to see if I can fix this problem. Any information on this subject would be a big help. If anyone has any fixes please respond. If there are none, at least explain to me how to get to the spark plugs. Anything at this point will put me in a better position than I am currently in. Thanks.

We used to replace a lot of the crank shaft position sensors in that model. There are two if them and they are located above the oil filter. Do you have an SES light on? If so, I would recomend going to autozone and having them pull the codes (it's free). As for the spark plugs, you have to take the engine cover off, there are 4 13mm bolts holding it on. The plugs on the front of the engine are easy, but on the back side you have to remove the coil pack assembly to access at least 2 of the plugs. Get a 6 inch extension and spark plug socket. Try to do this yourself, because a stealership will charge over $500 for plugs and wires.
