correctly installing a distributer in a 84 350

ive heard stab distributer at tdc and ive heard 8 degrees btdc which is correct and which way will the rotor point when its installed straight down the manifold or towards the #1 cylinder.

If it was me I would stab it tdc and point it at #1 then fire her up then adjust the timing acordingly.
