Best Tires to Put on Stock Rims

Hi, i have a 1990 gt and i was wondering what the widest tires i could get for it would be. My last car was AWD so i didnt have this problem but i hear that you can tires on that are about 3'' wider which im interested in.
Also if anyone could show me a link that would have good info about tires so i can learn more, i would deffinently appreciat it

What body style do you have? Hatchback or Coupe. I have a coupe and I have 15 inch rims on my car....but stock it was 14 and the best I could put on was 205/75/r14. I know that you can put wider on it and my tires come out even with the middle of the body if you look at it from the back. I will get back to you with the exact size and a picture if you would like.
