Loss of Power
My 96 Aurora has started to lose power intermitently, and I'm not 100% sure where to start. The problem first started when my wife drove over some particularly rough railroad tracks. The car lost power. It wouldn't stall, however, when you pushed the accelerator down, nothing happened. This problem corrected itself once the car was shut off and restarted. I have had it happen to me twice since. Once when I too went over some railroad tracks, and once this morning when it seem to just happen. Could this be a loose connection on the computer? (Where is the computer located?) Or could it be something else like a sensor going? Any assistance would be appreciated.

An update to the problem...My aurora seems to be doing this more frequently. There is no SES light coming on. The engine just stops responding to accelerator pressure. Usually the car will still idle fine. It just seems to lose all power when you push the acclerator down. I am wondering if the fuel pump is going and now acting sporadically. The really strange thing is that if you turn the car off and restart it, the problem disappears (at least temporarily). Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Try changing the throttle position sensor. If you are not getting a throttle response then it may be due to the TPS going bad. You may also be developing problems with the computer. When you shut the key off it resets and everything will work find for a period of time. Try the tps first!

How much did the fuel pump cost to replace? I think I might need the same thing done on my car. Only difference is, my car shuts off once it starts to jerk. I wait for a few minutes and all is back to normal and can drive the care on highway fine. This only happens on local roads with traffic.
