i fail smog because the computer din't read any sensor please i need help to pass.

yesteday i went to and smog check and i dind't pass. i don't have any light on in dash. the guy toll me that could be a computer problem and may need to be reprogramed. well, then i went to the dealer there toll me that kind of computer need to be replace.i dind't do it couse they going to charge me for $90 just to check the car. what u guys thing its the problem? my car its a jimmy 96 4x4 4 doors. i saw in ebay ecus from a 95 ($30) u thin this ecu will work in my 96.u thing the computer its making that kind of proble?. i really need some help please? thanks

Have you recently Taken the negative off the battery? When you take the negative off the battery or pull the fuse for the ecm I believe everything resets itself including the o2 sensors. You need to drive the truck for a few hundread miles then get it reinspected. Again I believe this is what your problem is. I am sure there will be many more people chiming in soon. Good luck

You don't have to reprogram and replace your ecm.

no i didn't take off the negative wire and the mechanic toll me the same a drive the car more (hit the speed about 60-65mph for 5 - 6 minutes,i drove alot more than that) and the when i was back
his computer dind't show any code in his screen. the first time when i try he toll me his screen show 5 sensors missings 2ond time just two and then 5 again i turn off the car like 20 minutes after try the thirt time meavy it could be.. but i will try again tomorrow mornig .the truck is running great and i will lifted. but thanks for u help and i will let u know guys. 1000000 thanks

tell him to list all of these sensor codes he is getting.

If he won't , then he is trying to scam you.

So a mechanic is scamming you and you know it for sure. Besides telling him to go f@$! himself! and bringing your vehicle to another trustworthy mechanic, what other kind of action can you take? You know so no one else gets screwed???
