How to install a CD player and speakers?

I'm a complete beginner at this.. I just bought a 1992 Civic CX hatchback and I want to install a nice head unit and some component speakers.

What do I need to do this? How do I take the old parts out, and how do I install the new units? How do I wire it all up?

I haven't purchased the new units yet but I'm most likely going to buy a Nakamichi CD-500.

You will need to buy an adapter harness (best buy, crutchfields, etc), and match the wires up from that adapter with the wiring above^^^

For the speakers, you will need a flat head screw driver (or something to gently pry the speaker grill off the door). Then just unscrew the speakers and attach them to the new speakers (the wires with the stripes are the negatives fyi). It's easy once you look at it, trust me if I can do it anyone can. Not sure about the tweaters though, or rears if you have them (because I have neither in my car).

Re: Re: How to install a CD player and speakers?

Can you help me with the same info for a 1990 Accord LX? I've got all the parts, adapter harness & dash kit, but the kit won't just slide right in. Do you have similar photos for dash removal?

Re: How to install a CD player and speakers?

There is an audio thread under cars in general in the forum main page. They would be of great help.

The dash kit for the 90 accord is a bitch to put in, at least with my 2 years experience at a stereo shop, make sure you didn't cut the wrong brackets and if the correct ones are all still there, just push it in hard...not much else you can do
