hey there, im 20 years old, about 6' tall, and weigh about 150lbs. im looking to start working out, mainly my upper body...i just need some advise to start. I dont have any weight equipment, and have a baby on the way, so not much money to spend. if i need to buy weights i will, but what would be the best routine for working out my biceps, triceps and chest?

Re: starting to work out
pushups, curls, dips etc. would probably be your best bet. Your already thin. Are you toned or a little wimpy?

It's kinda nuts to work your upper body and not your lower and back. You get most of your strenght from your base ie; legs, back, abs. To get stronger without weights I would start off with wide arm pushups, narrow pushups, crunches, squatthrusts, pullups, leglifts, wall sits, and buy some weights from wally world and do toe touches with a small amount of weight and then you can do standing curls. And for Gods sake, Stretch! Hope this helps.

Re: starting to work out
If you want to get the most out of weight lifting then you need to work out your legs regardless of if they are already built. Doing compound exercises like squats in particular help boost your testosterone levels which will make muscular gains a lot easier. But yeah, besides my little 2 cents i had to throw in rednecks body weight exercises are the way to go until you can get a good bench and some weights.

It's really not a good idea to leave out your entire lower torso if youre serious about weight training. I hate doing lower torso with a passion. The best thing to do is buy adjustable dumbells and a collapsable bench. You can work out practically any muscle group with just a set of bells with adjustale weights. |

good for you... squats are considered the most important workout due to the variety of muscle you use...
to get a 6 pack you need low body fat... the more muscle your body has, the more fat it burns even when sitting/standing... think of it as a v8 engine compared to a i4... even when they are both idling the v8 is using more gas... and guess what, your legs have some of the largest muscles in your body, so if they are built it makes it easier to keep your body fat down, and maintain a 6 pack just something to think about |
