2000 Silverado Rust
I have a 2000 Silverado which I just discovered rust from the inside out on the rocker panel underneath the extended cab. You can see it unless you are on ground and looking up.
Took it into the dealer and was immediately advised it was out of warranty due to it having 100700 miles. It is still in warranty as far as years as they have 6 year/100000 rust out warranty. GM has advised via a phone call they could do nothing under warranty. This rust was there well within the 100000 mile limit. Anyone have any suggestions to try to get this covered if not in full at least a partial payment. I know they do make exceptions. This is my 5th Chevy truck and in addition we have had 4 new GM cars. |

Another forum said they have good luck calling 1800chevusa. Give 'em HELL!!!!!

I phoned the dealer on this one the other day as I had surface rust on the outside just in front of the driverside rear wheel. They said that yes GM offers a 6 year/160000 KM warranty but, it has to be right through the body. He told me that mine had like 2 days left on that warranty. I thought it was cool that mine was covered under warranty although sucky it wasn't severe enough to have anything done about it.
Oh well, got out the sandpaper, paint, and tape and touched her all up this weekend. Doesn't look too bad either. Thank god for a white Vehicle and it's not in the center of the door or anything...

I discovered my rocker panels were soft 2 days ago and put my finger right thru the driver's side. A co-worker of mine is a hobbist welder and knows of a site where you can get replacement rocker panels for about $150 each side shipped. I went there and it's true. He knows where the weld tacks are on the truck so I'm going to replace my rockers with new ones and prime/treat the inside before we put them on. The site has every body part you could want for the truck and the prices are pretty reasonable. http://www.lmctruck.com

Boy am I thankful that I live here in Texas and not up north. I am assuming the sheetmetal is exacerbated by the salts used for roads?
