Question stumped,won't start

I have a 1988 Jeep Cherokee Laredo. The jeep's starting trouble has gotten increasingly worse and now it will not start at all. Hitting the accelerator when starting used to help a little, but not even that can do it now. We noticed that we could not hear the hum of the fuel pump when turning the key. So, we have installed a new fuel pump, but the engine still starts and dies immediately . Where does the fuel pump get its power to start running and stay on? We know that the problem is fuel-related, but cannot find where the wires run to. Haynes has no mention of where to find it (no schematic). We are stumped.
Please Help!

Re: stumped,won't start

Sounds like it could be your egr valve. I read an earlier thread that had a similar problem, stalled right away when the gas is touched even a little. Try a search for egr valve in the forum and you should find it.
It's located on driver side front fender towards the front. HAs a vacum line and an electrical connector going to it.

Talking

hey, we fixed it! turns out it was a wire that had gotten corroded and thus had caused a bad connection. We kept testing the power of the relay. We couldn't find where the wires connected to the relay ran to (the source). Had to follow the wires and finally found them, pulled them out, cut, and reattached. Starts right up now, but idles high at first since we unhooked the computer while trying to figure out the problem. It has to re-program itself and work out the kinks. I'll try to find out the names of the wires & locations and post them on this thread.
