Bush Takes Responsibility???

I happened to open Yahoo, and I noticed this link

http://www.yahoo.com/_ylh=X3oDMTB2MX...taWU-/s/254109

I don't agree with Bush on much of anything, I don't like him, yada-yada.

Responsibility is an unknown concept for the current administration, they haven't been willing to take responsibility for crap; what a change.

I never thought I would say I was proud of George, but finally he's showing some promise.

Re: Bush Takes Responsibility???

It's only in response to his plummeting approval rating numbers. But I agee to a certain extent that he did the right thing by stepping up and taking responsibility. Although, to be honest, not even close to all of the responsibility lies with him. FEMA as well as the mayor of New Orleans also have a lot to answer for I think.

Re: Bush Takes Responsibility???

You could blame FEMA, but that would in effect, be blaming the Bush administration...while FEMA was not prepared for the problem, it was Bush who appointed his unqualified friends to top positions in the department.

It is good to see Bush admit to something like this for once (providing he doesn't change his story under a different situation.) But I'd like to see the state and local government leaders step forward as well. There's just too many unanswered questions swirling around the mayor and governor that need answers -- the ludicrously slow response on the part of FEMA aside, I'm sure the governor could have put more pressure on the feds to reinvest and reengineer the levee designs long before the catastrophy, and after the hurricane gathered a good many more bodies statewide to step in and assist New Orleans earlier than they did. Also, I'm sure the mayor could have got the ball rolling on (preferably mandatory) evacuations sooner, which would have undoubtedly bought them precious more time to get many more -- who lacked the means on their own -- transportation OUT of the city.

Re: Bush Takes Responsibility???

Even though I am also proud to see Bush accepting responsibility I don't believe he had much of a choice. Obviously big mistakes were made (not all by Bush) and failing to admit that would only have made things worse for him. By accepting responsibility Bush has removed the ammunition from those attacking him for the systems overall failure. Now maybe we can quit playing the blame game and work on improving the system so things go better next time.

Sounds like he's saying the buck is stopping there. Its to bad the mayor, governer and others are going to use this to whitewash their own culpability.

One thing in the article that was good news was that the CDC aren't finding a lot of sick people down there. There was a lot of worry about disease, but so far, it hasn't turned out that way. A small silver lining.

Re: Bush Takes Responsibility???

The evening news reported that Louisiana Governor Blanco has followed the foot steps of the Prez and has accepted responsibility for failures at the state level. I wonder who's next?
