'94 Heater Core R&R

Has the 3.4L V6, A/C and 5 speed, if those matter.
How hard is it to change out the Heater Core?
I'm guessing I have to go at it from the interior once the lines are disconnected from it.
Just would like to know what I am getting myself into before I start.
Any tips are much apprieciated. - Mark

Re: '94 Heater Core R&R

Not sure what is involved on a 94 model, but on a 92 - you have to drop the steering colum down and remove the dash where it can be pulled back enough to get to the heater box. In order for the dash to be pulled back enough, the console has to be slid back to make room. It was not really anything hard about it but a real pain in the @ss at the same time & very time consuming. It took about 5 1/2 hours to R & R a $19 part.

The 94 model may not have to have as much removed to get to it, but dont rely on a haynes manual to be a dead on instruction guide. Those books are VERY vague. They are good as a general "get you started in the right direction" guide, but i would want a GM Parts & Illustration Book handy to help locate all of the retainers, screws & ect. so you dont break anything

Good luck

Thanks for the reply. It only took me 2 hours. Only had to remove the passenger side under dash piece, then the core cover. The biggest bitch is putting the new one in without damaging it. Patience is the key.

Re: '94 Heater Core R&R

It is really odd that in the labor rate guide the 91 & 92 models are the only ones that list the job as 8 hours . The models before 91 and after 92 list as 2 1/2 hours.
GM changed a bunch of stuff under there and really made it difficult to get to.

Glad yours was easier
