wheel hub

I just got all new tires on my 98 and will then be getting it aligned cause it needs one BADLY, but on one of my wheel hubs one of the lug nut rods are broken off, so now theres only 4 nuts holding on the tire instead of 5, (it was like that when i bought the car) i wanted to know how big of a process it is to get a new one on there, looks like it was snapped right off maybe cause it was tightended too much, do i need to replace the whole wheel hub or can i just get a new thread rod thing? how much and how big of a process is this and where can i get the new part? thanks in advance!

Re: wheel hub

You can replace just the stud. They are available at most parts stores and are relatively inexpensive. You will need to either drive the old one out or press it out. Then replace the old one with a new stud and pull it into place with a lug nut and several washers. You will probably need a new lug nut to go along with the new stud.

Re: wheel hub

ohh ok, does the wheel hub still need to come off to get to the back of the rod? and should i bring another rod with me to the parts store that wasnt snaped off to see what size nut and rod i need or can they just check by year make and model?

Re: wheel hub

The parts store should be able to look it up without you having to match your old one. Many hub bearings don't have the clearance to change the studs on the car, so that's a bummer, but I'm not sure on your model, so you'll have to try.
