rough idle?

anyone else have a slightly rough idle when in park? I have a 3.4L 2000, it idles fine in gear, but there is a tiny shake in the vehicle when shifted to park. otherwise, engine runs fine, sounds good, power is fine, etc...anyone got any ideas? I have upgraded the intake, had the fuel injectors cleaned last dec (10K or so ago), the only thing I can think of is plugs and wires....I have a little over 52K on the vehicle. this condition has exsisted for quite a while, maybe a year or so...Thanks in advance for any help...

Re: rough idle?

I bought my 02 ls 3.8 with 30000 miles and I noticed it on mine, my friend bought a brand new 03 ls with 42 miles, and his did it as well, so it may just be the way the car idles, ive gotten used to it so it doesnt bother me much

Good, I'm not the only one who noticed. Both my Impala's idle like that (02 & 03).

Re: Re: rough idle?

yeah, I felt it and kinda got worried at first, but it put my mind at ease when I friends new less than 100 miles on it, did it to. I wouldnt quite call it a rough idle, becuase it only happens evry 10 seconds or so, not all the time, and it more resembles a low idle, like car car wants to die for half a second then recovers, or even a small misfire, but not quite like a misfire. but its pretty soft like a stumble. like the car trips over its own feet then catches itself. at least thats how id describe it, perhaps the other instances from others is different, but if you would agree with my description then it might not be a problem, or it could be one of those common problmes that many people just dont notice, but I dont feel it make the car lose power, I mean, how much power are you going to need when in park. who knows....

Re: rough idle?

thanks guys, i figured it wasn't serious, but it's nice to hear it's a vehicle quirk, not a potential problem.

Mama's (wife) car does the same thing. Just a very slight mis or something. But you really have to pay attn. to it or you won't know it's there. Thats how slight it is. I'm not going to worry about it either.

Re: rough idle?

My impala does it quite noticibly now. I had the fuel filter replaced, new plugs and wires, had the injectors cleaned and the fuel rail cleaned and all that stuff. it's a 2000 3.4 liter with 96,000 miles on it. It's very annoying and i dont' know what to do about it now. Sounds like you guys dont' have it as bad as i do, but i never noticed it before...i'm going to try the converter next, it has poor acceleration and shitty gas milage...i will let you guys know...i have been putting off the converter because it's so damn expensive...been looking for an aftermarket direct fit, but i can't find one i'm satisfied with....let me know

Re: Re: rough idle?

bremis, I know with ast posts, that you do know enough about cars, but if you agree with my previous post, you may have already thought about it bit if it feels like a misfire why not wires and plugs, or possiblly even the coils. it seems you tried a lot with the fuel system.......or perhaps its just something with the car(ecu, bcm, pcm) and its just something we might all have to deal with unless we get new (recalibrated/performance) pcm's or something like that. maybe if I remember ill test drive a brand new(05) and see if that does it.

Re: rough idle?

Well i dont' want to go as far as replacing computer components because, well for one, it can get expensive in a heartbeat, and second it's something that i shouldn't need to do on a five year old car. I mean a rough idle can be caused my any number of things....i will see if maybe trying to recalibrate the pcm or something might change it. I have been looking at new cars for about a week now with the anticipation of getting rid of this piece of shit. I'm so nervous on what car to get because i don't wanna be in the same boat I'm in now. So i'm test driving and researching like crazy.

I will let you guys know what i get....

mike

Just wanted to let you guys know that I have a 2005 Impala with the 3.4 that I just bought with 28,000 miles on it, and every since I bought it the idle is rough when in park and really rough when you turn the air off and the car idles down..... it almost dies it idles so low, I took it to the shop and they just said it was a common Idle for the 3.4 engine..... It worries me but I have pretty much gotten used to it now.
