need help with drivetrain noise on GSR
Hi all,
I have a 99 Acura Integra GSR, and it has developed a strange noise somewhere on the drivetrain. It is the easiest to hear at low speeds in low gear. Basically it is a repeating low thumping noise, giving the car a brrrrrrrr type of sound as you speed up. The strangest thing is that the noise seems intermittent / it gets louder at times. (and I know that it is a drivetrain noise because revving the engine alone cannot produce the sound). I have no idea how to pinpoint something like this and I would appreciate any tips. Thanks! |

Two things come to my mind when you described it, wheel bearing, or cv joint, it could be other things, but those are the most common.
To check for a cv joint, find an empty parking lot, lock the steering wheel to the right and give it some gas, do you hear a clunking sound? Do the same but turn the wheel to the left. To check for a bearing, see if the noise gets louder as you drive faster, or check to see if you have excessive runout at the wheel hub. You need to try to see where the noise is coming from in the drivetrain, under the hood (like trans), right side of car, etc... And does it only do it in one gear? |
