Unhappy Sludge Problem

I have posted before on this site about sludge. Toyota decided to fix the car, its been about two weeks because of parts. Ayways, does anyone what exactly is covered if they fix it because they just called us and said we would have to pay for the head, spark plugs, oil change, and water pump. i read something earlier somewhere but don't remember. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Re: Sludge Problem

I can understand their point about the rest, but the head would be directly damaged by the lack of oil flow which resulted from sludge buildup, and should be covered under the same TSB as the block.

Sludge Problem

I thought the same thing. Thanks Brian, you have great knowledge about Toyotas and cars in general. Glad this forum is here. Is your comment how I would approach them or do I need to research and find some sort of back up. Because I am thinking if there Toyota mechanics or deal with such things, wouldn't they know that the head is part of the engine because the head itself was sludged.
thanks

Re: Sludge Problem

You're welcome.

What I said is a good start, but they can out argue you any day. I would bring a mechanic along to make your point. Alternatively, ask a mechanic to look at the estimate and write a short note on his opinion.

Thumbs up sludge problem

called a couple of mechanics, they verified that head is part of engine and then contacted Toyota Motor Corp, who said that head is inclluded and called Toyota dealer and and after being busted and a couple of uh uh uh they said they would fix it and the rest of the stuff would cost 140.00. You can't trust people worth a ****.
Thanks

Re: Sludge Problem

This is weird! They want you to pay for oil change?

Normally all tasks necessary to finish a specific job under warranty should be covered also. For example, if they need to replace the tranny under warranty, they can't claim the tranny oil is not under warranty and charge you.

Toyota should have paid for your job, they are not supposed to charge you again. But normally the customer will feel that Toyota had paid $2500 of the job, so it's not too bad to pay $200 by themselves. I beleive this money is a net profit for the dealers.
