95 golf 2.0 -> black smoke, erratic idle

Hi everyone, I am new to this forum and from what I have seen it looks great.

I wonder if anyone can help me out.
I have a 95 GOLF 2.0L. The first time I start it on a new day I get a lot of black smoke coming out and the idle is not steady. If I put it in 1st gear and try to drive, it will stall. I need to let it run for a couple of minutes to let the engine run smoother, and then I can go. I will still need to give it more gaz then usually to start on a stop without stalling tough.

God you should see the black smore cloud that this problem creates, awfull.

This morning I started it to put it on ramps because I want to change the gaz filter to see if it helps but I didn't let it run long enough, it stalled and now it won't start. Maybe I flooded it but anyway....

Anyone has an idea?

Sounds like maybe a bad maf sensor, but the check engine light would be on.

Re: Re: 95 golf 2.0 -> black smoke, erratic idle

Kashan I just replaced the mass air flow sensor.

IT DIDN'T HELP!!!

I still have the same problem. The car is unusable.

I took it for a 5 mins ride and kept stalling at stop signs. When I got back I decided to check oil and noticed smoke coming out the oil guage, well not the guage but where the guage is stored.

I bought a used mass air flow system. Could it be defective too? I doubt it.
