Maaco paint Job

Ok here's the story. Somone at work key'd my drivers side door. The company I work for offered to pay for it. So I took it to a body shop and they said $600.00 to repair. all3 panes had to be blended and clear coated. The Blazer is a 97 s10 4.3 color Black. So for the heck of it I went to Maaco to see how much to paint the entire truck because it had other scratches and small dings the hood a little crows feet. I ended up knowing the manager. I used to chumb around with him about 20 years ago. Any way he told me $918.00 to paint the whole truck. I have been reading around and most hate macco but he assured me they would do a good job and that most folks that are not satisfied buy the $250 paint job and expect it to look great. Any opinions on this . I'll be picking up the blazer Tuesday or Wednesday and will give you all an honest opinion on how it came out.I dont expect a factory finish but I dont want to see runs and orange peal either . it's a nail biter.

Re: Maaco paint Job

From what I've heard (no personal experience) they don't do any body work with the cheap paint job. They just mask and apply a thin coat of paint which means any dents, dings, or scratches will still be visible through the new paint.

Same with me, no personal experience, but make sure the truck is ready to paint before you take it in or you might find that they've painted over the top of bird crap.

Re: Maaco paint Job

Most of the noise you hear about Macco is people bitching about the quality of their $250 paint job. That's like going to a cheap restraunt and bitching about your food. Macco is just as capable as any other middle-of-the road body shop but you will indeed get what you pay for.

I might bring my truck to Macco just to take care of a ding in the door, well I will get a price anyway. I also know one of those very few mechanics that does body work and he is a complete perfectionist, so if he screws up the slightest bit, even if you don't see it but he does, he starts over! He does incredible work at a resonable price and gives you a rental car. Very nice guy.

ps I had a 1990 Pontiac Grand Prix Painted there. I got what I paid for for the $300 I paid. Included an hour of body work and painting the whole car. It was decent, nothing special. No showroom shine but looked better then it had in a while. Basically a macco paint job takes a few years off the car, like a face lift!

Re: Maaco paint Job

My 1971 monte carlo was painted by maaco about five years ago which the previos owner paid for. The paint looks very nice because it was the better paint job ofcourse. i get compliments on it all the time and people can't believe it was done by Maaco.
Good Luck with it.

Maaco paint jobs are about just like any othr place you. If your friend is someone you can trust, then you are getting a great deal. I had my 77 Nove painted at Maaco and some small dents fixed. It came out perfect. Just remember. You get what you pay for.

My parents live next to some pot-head kid who gave himself a maaco job on his 85 camaro. He did it using about 3 or 4 can's of rustoleum. THIS IS NO B/S! Me and my dad watched him from the garage as he pulled up, parked in the street, got out with a bag of can's and got to work. He didn't even bother to tape off the windows, and he even got the wheels to match too. It was a "Home-Done Maaco Metallic Blue" when he was done. Then his dad walks out, and of all things to say after your only son spray-paints his first car, he says: "Good job!" I wish I got pictures of it. It actually looked descent from my garage, with my glasses off. And furthermore, this was a Napa Auto Parts employee. At least at the time.

From what I've heard.....a $250 paint job is just that. A PAINT job. Doesn't say anything about filling rust holes, fixing dents, filling scratches. Its a paint job. If someone brought you a car that looked like something they rolled down a hill and asked you to paint their car for $250, Would you do hours and hours of body work when they didn't ask for it? If you wanted all the dents and stuff ot of it should have taken it in for a body job. Not just a paint job.

Very good point. But the lack of masking is not right though.
