'98 Aurora stalling, check engine light on

Last night my "service engine soon" light came on, car ran fine. Today, it stalled at a light, started right back up though. Also, my "fasten seatbelt" light goes on and off (even though I have my seatbelt on). Recently had fuel filter replaced and water pump. Any thoughts??

a place like AutoZone can tell you what the code is for free - let us know what the code is...

keep in mind that a code gets set when a component gives and out of range reading and the code does not neccessarily tell you what part you need.

However, judging by your symptoms, the MAF sensor seems like the culprit.

Yes, the Autozone guy said that too - he also said I should replace the sparkplugs after the MAF sensor b/c this problem ruins them? I just had them replace 6 mos ago - is he correct, or is he taking advantage of me being a female and uninformed? (I didn't buy them).

Re: '98 Aurora stalling, check engine light on

a bad MAF could potentially foul the plugs with carbon deposits. But if the engine is runnung fine then any deposits that may have accumulated in the few hours of the bad MAF will simply burn off.

even if they did foul, you could simply clean them if they are relatively new.

not to worry

Installed new MAF, and Suzi (that's my '98 Aurora's name) is purring like a kitten once more! Thanks for your input, much appreciated! Here's another querk for you: When I start Suzi up, my blinkers make a blinking sound for about 20-30 seconds (no lights, just sound) - any thoughts?

Re: Re: '98 Aurora stalling, check engine light on

I had the "flashing light problem" 15 mos. ago and followend Thumpin'555 instructions which worked great - this time it's not my lights, just this click, click, click blinker sound......do you think I should clean the multifuncion switch again?
