I have a 2005 Chevy Colorado with a 2.8L 4 banger and I was thinking about getting a cold air intake sytem to boost the hp a little. My questions are 1) is an exhaust system also required to compensate for more air coming in and 2) if I opted to get a turbo, should it be installed with or instead of the intake system?

A 4 BANGER IS A GROCERY GETTER. IT WILL ONLY PRODUCE SO MUCH HP,WHY SPEND THAT AMOUNT OF DOLLARS ON A TURBO. BUT THE COLD AIR INTAKE IS A CHEAP UPGRADE. I HAVE A 2000 BLAZER WITH 4300 VORTEC .COLD AIR INTAKE WAS THE 1ST THING I BOUGHT,AND IS MONEY WELL SPENT. RATED AT 15 TO 23 HP. WITH THE EXHUAST I DONT KNOW WHAT U WOULD PUT ON A 4CYL, I HaVE BORA CAT CONVERTER WITH A FLOWMASTER CROSS PIPE AND 2 40 SERIES MUFF, SHE SOUNDS WICKED AT ALL TIMES EVEN AT A IDLE.

Re: Cold Air Intake
your writing offends my eyes, please don't type all caps unless your pissed and ranting about something and then you'd post that in the offtopic forum. anyway, no you dont need an exhaust system to get power from a cold air intake but it helps. you will also notice more of an increase if you have other mods, so if you unstall headers you'll notice a certain hp gain but if you install them after having installed the intake you'll notice a greater gain because the stock one was more restrictive now that there's more exhaust gases and they're hotter. but seriously, you wont get much enjoyment out of that truck, i would seriously concider waiting for a good performing vehicle to modify because otherwise it will cost a pretty penny to make a lethargic car fun. try a diesel, they are good and you can get them to 400+ hp with those tuning chips like bully dog, intake, intercooler, exhaust, maybe a new turbo and you might (but i doubt it) need to upgrade injectors to reach that. plus you could tear down a skysraper with it (exageration but you'd have the power to destroy a house).

Re: Cold Air Intake
i wasn't bitching, sorry if i made it sound that way, its just that many people prefere to see typing in all lower case over all upper case, correct grammar, however, is generally more appreciated but this is the internet, nobody uses correct grammar.

There is not much point in intake with out exhaust you can jam all the air you want if it cant get out it will do little do it all intake headers duals and then get a westers hot tune.
Or get a bigger toy
