Exclamation Lag In Acceleration

I've had my SPI focus for about 2 months now, and the only real problem with it, is this slight lag in acceleration. I start off, and there will be this slight lag after it reaches about 15-20 (It only lags at low RPMs). The harder I push accelerator, the less it lags. Can anybody tell me what this is? It seems to me like its a fuel problem (like there is something blocking the fuel in the line, and I have to push the accelerator harder in order to get the fuel flowing correctly.) Ive waited until now, because most of you would probably suggest the following (in which I've all changed)...
-Fuel Filter
-Air Filter
-Plugs and Wires
Ive even tried running 93 octane for a few weeks to see if it would help...but nay. Its just that the damn lag is driving me nucking futs!!! Please help!!!

Thanks

Re: Lag In Acceleration

How many miles? I'm assuming automatic, in which case a problem with the torque convertor comes to mind, but I remember hearing this problem before, and something else was causing it, though I can't remember for the life of me, what it was.
EDIT: Just saw in your other post it's a 5 speed, so disregard that post...I'll try and look around to see if I can find the cause. If you really can't stand it, you could always just swap in an SVT Zetec

61,000 miles...I think I read a post sometime yesterday, that was very similar to this same problem...I think that somebody just changed their ignition coil, and the problem was fixed. I' should try that, but any other suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

i had the same problem its not the fuel filter but close. its the fuel pump screen. if you hook up a fuel gage to it and drive it youll see about 22psi of pressure at time of problem.you have to drop the tank so you should just replace the pump.the replacement pump is a better design.

Re: Lag In Acceleration

SVT swap? now THATS pointless lol

i'd try injector cleaners and make sure the plug gaps are correct, also he may be right w/ the pump screen

I'd go with dave malos' remedy. On other forums I've noticed the same scenario with the same question. Focus fuel pumps are notorious for failure and or low pressure. Ford knows about it and there is a TSB on the issue. Hence my question about fuel filter location earlier. I got that same lag thing and suspect the fuel filter but I don't know, my gut tells me fuel pump. Tried the fuel injector cleaner route, no change. If only I could find the time to change the thing. Well again, I'll keep you guys posted. And I'd hate to change the fuel pump and that not be the solution.

ok... so far I've done all of the following...and still, no dice
-Change air filter
-change fuel filter
-run injector cleaner
-changed oil and oil filter
-changed plugs and wires (bosch platinum 2 plugs, so no gap needed)

so I guess I'm going to either have to buy a new fuel pump, a new ignition coil, or both. I'll probably go with the coil first...seeing how that would probably be the cheaper route.

Re: Lag In Acceleration

Run a scan to see if you can pull any codes...emissions system would be at the top of my list too.
