'94 Explorer EB Interior lights stay on, Alarm?
I have a neighbor buddy of mine, and he and I trade Explorer war stories and we've got one we can't figure out.
He has a 1994 Explorer, Eddie Bauer with leather and all the gadgets. It has the factory anti theft, dimming mirror, and auto-off courtesy lights inside the vehicle. The story is this, he took it to get a car wash. Parked it afterwards to dry it and the alarm went off un-provoked. Now the alarm continues to sound at random, and the interior lights in the vehicle will not shut off unless you pull the fuse. It's worth noting the car is driveable and not shut off by the alarm. This just started happening and the vehicle has about 212K on it. We can't trace what the heck is going on. We suspect it's related to the anti-theft system going cuckoo. The green anti theft light is blinking with the key off. Any ideas are appreciated, possibly a hand in how to gut the car alarm might be nice. Parting shot on this is the alarm and fuel system are both on fuse 3, Grrrreat! Thanks, Muley |

Take the alarm out. Took mine out years ago. Miss the keyless entry, but not the alarm.

Again, that's a worst case scenario. Anyone else out there heard of this happening?

Re: '94 Explorer EB Interior lights stay on, Alarm?
I would check the door switches. This never happened in my explorer, but my Dodge neon was constantly getting the seatbelt closed in the door, denting the inside of the door so the door switch would not be pressed in. Its also possible one of the door switches could be bad. I used to install alarms/remote starts for a living, and Ive seen that happen quite a bit.

Unfortunately my explorer has this issue. The first time it happened after a heavy rainfall, it just randomly went off when it wanted. So I figured out that if you don’t use the power locks (push them manually) it doesn’t arm it. Then during another rainstorm the alarm wasn’t armed and it just went crazy beeping and flashing the lights and the key wouldn’t disarm it like usual. I wasn’t home at the time and my brother had to disconnect the battery. So I ask a mechanic for a ford dealer to come and look at it. He took and disconnected the sensor in the hood and it worked great for a while. It sat at our hunting cabin for a whole day in the pouring rain and the alarm was armed. I drove it home and let it sit awhile in the pouring rain. I got in and drove it down the hill in our driveway and the alarm would turn on and turn off really fast the whole way down but it would still drive. It has went off a couple of times since but at least I could shut it off with the key. Now the mechanic is looking for a fix or he’ll disengage it. I’ll let you know how it turns out. By the way my explorer eb has 140,000 miles on it.
