What do you guys think?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/TD05H...98828482QQrdZ1

I'm thinking about buying this kit. The price seems fair so far. What do you guys think the kit is really worth and how high should i bid? Does anyone have any experiences with buying this kit or anything from this company? If so, how was it?

I just don't wanna buy a turbo and have it last for 15 miles and then blow because it was junk.

Thanks for any help.

Steve

I stopped buying from them. Everything I bought was 100% shit Including that turbo header in the kit you posted. Sure it looks great, but try to put that thing on and you will find that one of the exhaust runners is positioned right in front of an exhaust manifold bolt and it will not go on!! Also the way the runners are positioned you can not get a wrench or even a socket in there to tighten!! I ended up cutting one of my manifold bolts just to see if it would work. Now I have to replace that stud and I wasted 200.00 on that pos header. I dont know how they stay in bussiness.

Re: What do you guys think?

there is a big 16 g on dsmtuners for 175 and you can probally find a manifold and stuff to go with it for way less than that turbo kit

Re: What do you guys think?

be very cautious buying from ebay. Ive heard some not so good things about the gt version of the evo turbo. you should always check to see if they carry any type of warranty on the turbo. If i were you i would buy from a reputiable performance shop. Remember you get what you pay for. Do some research about what you want to do and dont just jump on something just cause the price is to good to pass up. The good thing about the internet is if your patient you will find a good deal somewhere. You might try saving a couple of hundred of dollars in the short run, but end up paying for it in the long run. Good luck and happy hunting!

Re: What do you guys think?

ok guys i'm seriously about to drive my car off of a cliff with me inside of it. earlier i went to summit....bought some fittings for the SS oil feed line i have (my friend got me just the line like a week ago). so i go home, planned to put my friends small 16g on that he gave me. got the fittings on the line after 2 hours of pressing, getting steel in my fingers and a lot of cussing. made sure they were both secure. so to make a long story short, i got everything in. made sure everything was tight. started the car up, idle was a little higher than before. there was very little smoke coming from the exhaust and it actually smelled 'normal'. triple checked everything, then took her around the block for a real quick test drive. as soon as i hit boost the first time, i hit MAYBE 2 psi. my temp gauge spiked to 250, lights got dim. i shut the car off, and coasted back to my garage. pulled it in, popped the hood and oil was EVERYWHERE. looked under the car and the oil feed line blew off the fitting i had near the oil filter. WTF! i made SURE that both ends were 110% secure. you guys think i coulda fucked the motor or turbo up? i mean i just went for a 1 minute drive. as soon as i seen boost, temp spiked, i shut the car off and coasted.

any help would be great.

Steve

Re: What do you guys think?

As for the turbo kit, I dont know about the rest of the parts but beware of the 16G GT version of it. They claim its made in Taiwan and its a lot better then the original EVO 16G which I think is a complete lie. Maybe it will last and maybe not, but get the Mitsubishi made 16G to be sure and happy.

As for the oil and your car, damn man your luck sucks but dont worry I dont think you could have damaged anything so serious. I dont understand how you could have done everything right and then the line could blew off the fitting? I hope everything's alrite, DSM are known to create a lot of problems .

By the way, thanks for the post explaining everything about polyurethane mounts. It helped a lot .

Re: What do you guys think?

was the fitting a L shaped fitting? The fitting and steel line i used on my gst was a 5min job. not sure if its different for a spyder. Not quite sure how it blew off. I used a cresent wrench and some plumbers tape on mine. was the fitting still in the hole and the line blew off? the oil line shouldve had a swivel end on. Not sure what the hell happend. Next time you do it, always have a friend standing by with the hood open looking from top and bottom while you start the car and let it get up to temp. Most oil leaks will happen right away. If the line was difficult to turn on the fitting you might have cross thread the f*%# out of it so there was no threads to catch on. As for your turbo, no oil being feed through it even for a short time is very very bad! You probably know that though.

Re: What do you guys think?

DON'T DO IT!!!! It is being offered by SS Autochrome. I did a big write up on my debacle with them. They sell crap. Do a little searching online and you'll get some horror stories beside mine.

Here is a link to my post.

Re: What do you guys think?

I have purchased several thousand dollars worth of stuff over the internet, including E-Bay. A complete kit like that looks pretty generic, and I would not risk it one bit.

The most expensive single item I ever got off E-Bay was the 6-bolt block I just purchased a while ago, and only because it was an SBR block, being sold by SBR too. Don't go for complicated non-branded stuff, it almost never works out right; fitment issues, performance issues, everything. I wouldnt mind getting a used branded PC from a seller with excellent feedback, but a new turbo kit that isnt branded, I'd stay away from that. I highly recommend getting this stuff from a shop (ie, RRE, SBR, etc). At least they can fix a screw-up; vague "over-there-somewhere" internet sellers almost never want to talk to you after youre done shopping with them.

Re: What do you guys think?

ok here's the update guys...
just a couple hours ago i started work on the beast again. got the feed line off. from the looks of it, it wasn't fitted right into the fitting at the oil housing. so me and my friend CUT the SS line (yes i know, it's stupid). there was a shitload of burs. we went to his house and he used a diamond cutter or some shit on it. turned out PERFECT. tapes the end tight as hell, lubed up the fitting and the line and jammed it through and locked it. no way in hell is that ever coming out. got it back on the car. went and got more oil and radiator fluid. topped off the fluids. started the car, layed under it looking for leaks. no leaks ANYWHERE. took her out for a spin with ym friend. went around the block a few times looking at the gauges to make sure everything was normal. got on a straight road, 2nd gear, floored it. HOLY SHIT does this thing move like an ape that just got raped by godzilla. i was at 100 in no time. i couldn't believe it! got back to the house, pulled it in the garage, jacked it up and just about shit myself.

there was oil all over the bottom of the motor. i shut it off, lowered it, let it sit for a couple minutes, checked the oil. oil level was right where it was before i took it out. didn't make sense.

now i'm thinking...last night, after blowing off that feed line, it shot oil everywhere. it even reached my hood. today when i started working on it, i cleaned off everything i could get to. all of my belts were covered completely in oil. if i touched one, i'd have oil all over my hand. so, after running it hard i'm thinking the belts threw all the oil off and oil got over everything again. along with the radiator fans blowing (there was oil in the radiator fins and fans too). i think it pretty much sprayed all of the oil that i couldn't get to all over everything. make any sense?

sooo...after cleaning everything i could get to off AGAIN, i stared her up. layed under it looking for ANY leaks. no leaks anwhere. i layed there for a good 15min. not a drop from anything. had my friend rev it up as i was looking. nothing. so i took the car out again. beat on it a little bit, hit 85, brought the car back in the garage again. jacked it up and got under it. this time there was a little oil. some on the pan, a little on the brace under the radiator but it was no where near as bad as last time. shut the car off, lowered it, checked the oil. oil was a TAD lower than last time. i figured it might be lower since my oil cap leaks like a SOB and gets my pretty valve cover all dirty, and since it had a chance to completely circulate through the filter, etc. but like i said, when laying under the car nothing leaks. you guys think it's just blowing all that oil around from last night?

please, help! i want to drive my baby again with confidence and not have to oull over every 5min to check the oil level!

thanks for the help.

Steve

Read that. I am willing to bet that turbo is one of the "China GT" turbos. I personally wouldnt risk it.

Hey hey no more about the China GT! I have it in my Gst and in runs perfect and from what I've heard it pulls a littler harder than the regular EvoIII because of the 34mm wastegate and port job. It's a great turbo, I've had mine for about 2 months and it pulls just as hard as the day I put it on. So no more skepticism okay!!!

I was just going off what I read from SBR, I figured they were a pretty good source. How many miles have you put on it? Let us know if/when it blows, I for one would like to know how it really is from someone whos had it.
