Question Test Pipe for Me?

When I was cruising with an ESi last nite, he said he didnt have a cat. It was loud, but it was fast. I was wondering, if I got a test pipe, would I see any gains? Of course I do have emissions, but I would swap when I needed to. Would I get anything big out of it? I do have a pretty good cat already. It is high-flow, but it does have 2 honey-combs. Would I get any big flow?

Re: Test Pipe for Me?

maybe a couple of hp. nothing to extreme. I have always used a straight through downpipe on my turbo'd rides. You might see a little bit of rpm drop at higher speeds, maybe 2-400 rpm. Its a gamble on n/a cars though.

Re: Test Pipe for Me?

If you want horsepower, either sell your talon and buy turbo, or turbo the 420a ( recommended ) It would be a nice project and you would see a major difference in power. Besides, its always nice to see a turbocharged ESI. And if you buy parts over time and seperatly and not the whole kit , it would come out way cheaper. I ran a test pipe on a RS , and the car sounded better but didnt see any huge HP gains. The best way for huge horsepower is always the turbo. A kid that lives near my house just turboed his 420a RS. He bought the kit seperatly and it coast him around $900. Intercooled with a small 16G and all the other supporting mods. Well I ran him with my N/T RS and I have to say he smoked me by like 10 busses. I think its worth it to save up a little and turbo the car, you would love it trust me .

Re: Test Pipe for Me?

I wouldn't do it, your car may be a tiny bit fast when its in the higher rpms but in the lower ones you will loose power.

Yeah if you already have a high flow cat I wouldnt. Im ordering my straight through dp hopefully nexy week. And about turboing the 420a, I dont think thats such a great idea. It has some pretty high compression, plus its a lot more than it would cost for a gsx, gst. 4g63 for me.

Cool. I won't buy one then. I was just wondering about it. It would probably sound like crap also. Everyone I know who doesnt have a cat sounds terrible.

Don't start with me. LOL. Read any of my posts. I'm staying N/T with this car, and I'm not buying one until someone wants to buy this car or it breaks down. I'm not going for mad amounts of speed right now. I've driven turbo cars (STi's), and I do love it. I'm just not going for that right now!! I know turbo = hp, but I want alittle more hp without the turbo. I don't need a turbo to prove my manhood or anything. Its a car for godsake. NO TURBO WILL SEE MY CAR!! Everyone!! NO TURBO WILL SEE MY CAR!! People give up too easy. I'm not doing that! I know Im probably sounding bitchy, but Im not going with a turbo, and I want to make that clear. Im going to add that in my sig so everyone can remember for future reference. I'm N/A, and keeping it that way. Thank you.

Re: Test Pipe for Me?

do all the muscle car tricks. bore it out, raise the compression with different pistons, dunno if you can do a stroker on a 420 but check, cams, and a wet shot of n2o. as long as you use it right it wont hurt your engine

Re: Test Pipe for Me?

That leaf blower shit is funny. No nitrous... no turbo. I know what mods Im looking at. I just got tired of people saying, "get a turbo."
