3.0 throttle body

Would I be able to switch the throttle body off of a 3.0 on my 89 2.5 shadow? If so, what would be some pros and cons?

Re: 3.0 throttle body

no you can't the 3.0 litre is multi-port injection, the 2.5 is not. The 2.5 has a single fuel injector in the throttle body. I'm not sure where, but I have heard of some aftermarket places having bigger throttle bodies for the 3.0 V6.

Well then I guess my next question is, Is there anyway that I can get more flow out of my tb? Is there any kind of bigger one that is compatible, or ways for better flow? I read of some people borin out their tb and takin the butterfly flap out of a turbo tb and putting it in theirs because its bigger (?) but that seems like alot of work. Is there anything else i can buy or do to it?

Re: 3.0 throttle body

I guess i'm confused, are you trying to put the 2.5 TB on a 3.0 or the other way around?
Is the 2.5 a Turbo or not?

No, its not a turbo. What I want is to put the throttle body off of a 3.0, and put it on my 2.5... Is that possible? and if it isnt, is there any where that i can buy an aftermarket tb?

Re: 3.0 throttle body

There isn't much you can do with the Throttle Body Fuel injection on the 2.2/2.5's.
Instead of wasting time and money on this, buy a cheap neon and go from there. At least you will be able to go much faster.
There is a "lip" under the TB in the manifold that is sitnificantly smaller than the bore on the TB. I cut the lip off of mine and installed two gaskets (they are very thick, it made a nice spacer) it made a significant difference. I also put on a low restriction exhaust. It probable made a 8-10 hp difference overall. It also caused my check engine light to come on occasionaly reporting "lean" mixture. Since mine was a 2.2 I had the bright idea of going to the Dodge dealer and asking for an injector for a 2.5. That cleared up the "lean" problem while at highway speed but it idled a little rich.

alright, i'll have to try the boring the lip thing. Well while we are on the subject, is there any kind of high pressurized after market injector then for the throttle body, rather than the one that comes stock?

Re: 3.0 throttle body

The infectors are made by Bosch. They made a whole set of flow rates for this configuration years ago. You would have to do some research to find out the flow rate of yours and then locate a source for buying a new one. When I bought mine it was about $60 (1992). I hauled the car to the junk yard in 1998 after the block cracked.

how'd you crack the block? The 2.5 is a cast-iron block? Did you overheat it? Just curious...........

Re: 3.0 throttle body

It's a painfull memory. Bought the car new.
At 100K the head gasket started leaking, pulled the head and replaced gasket. At 135K the gasket blew and it overheated severly warping the head. That is when I found out that I messed up be re-using the old head bolts - they are disposable. After getting the head repaired, at 170K the car suddenly overheated and ceased (150 miles from home). Pulled the head to discover anti-freeze in the #2 cylinder and a hairline crack running along the side if the cylinder by the bolt hole.
