I bought my 1994 740il in 1997 with 42,000 miles. Shortly thereafter the idle was real rough. When I took it in for service I was told I needed a new engine. Apparently the alloy reacted negetively to the gasoline in the U.S. The dealed replaced the engine.
I now have 95,000 miles on the engine and the same problem (rough idle) is back. Only problem is that the dealer is telling me there is nothing they can do. They are telling me that the new block had a 36,000 mile or 3 year warantee. I know there was a recall for this problem but I am wondering if there is any recourse with BMW. Anyone ever had this problem? I think BMW gave me the same block that was originally installed. Any help or advise is greatly appreciated. Thanks. |

They had problems with that M60 motor and extended the warranty to 7 years or 100,000 miles. On the new motor, that should be correct.
I had the same problem with mine only I was 6 months after the warranty period but was inside the 100K mileage, nothing they would do for me at that point. I got no help at all from the dealership, or BMW of North America. This makes my 6th BMW to own, but after the level of customer service I got this time, this will be my last. Best advice I can give you is if it you bought it from that dealership, have them appeal to their BMW service rep for a possible special exception. It's a long shot, but might be worth it. Good luck to you, you'll need it. Jay *Edit* There was no recall on it. |
