Valve ping Bad At startup

Every mornign or whenever she sits to long my 5.3 litre votek 350 pings like hell till she warms up. I used a bottle of oil additive and it quited it down fo0r a bit but now its started back up. I have been told this is common on this era vortek. Any feedback?
