Extra Temp Probe

I have a question pertaining to a temperture probe that use to be installed into my radiator. Last summer I changed out my radiator from the standard two pass closed system to a three pass (1992 model) open cooling system. It is not the engine block temp probe that is in the back of the engine by the fairewall, it was screwed into the old radiator.

While doing this conversion I had to remove a temp probe from the radiator itself, on the new (92) radiator there was no spot to install this probe. So my question is will it effect the computer (brain) if I leave it off (or as I have it now placed against the radiator housing receiving radiant heat instead of direct heat for the radiator)..???

Is there any suggestions as to what to do with the probe??

This is my first Jeep Cherokee aaa9 if you discount owning a 1985 Jeep for one week) so I am basically learning as I go with this one. I do have a good mechanical mind set.

Re: Extra Temp Probe

the temp probe in the rad is there for the electric fan only, it tells the fan when to come on when the temp in the rad gets to hot.

What 89ltd said!

So you have a few options here. You can either wire a manual switch to the fan (where the sensor used to plug in) and run this into the dash. You can then manually turn on the fan whenever you notice the temp getting a bit high.

Or you can swap out the thermostat housing for a '92+ which locates a sensor in the housing.
