Warranty
Hey, does anyone know what mods can be made before the warranty is voided? I live in NJ and am trying to do all the mods I can before I void the warranty.
Also if anyone knows of a good dealer where I can have these mods put in let me know

MODS
I was told by my dealership that i could only do a cat back exhaust and air intake. Anything else like a chip or boost controller would void the warrenty, but i just seen a piggyback engine managment system that plugs into the stock ecu and cant be noticed by the dealer ($1500 canadian).

nothing will "void" the warranty. a court precedence on this matter states that, as a consumer, u have the right to modify your car however u like. BUT, if an unapproved modification can be shown to directly cause a malfunction, that malfunction will not be covered under warranty. so for example, if u have an intake, and u break a synchro in your transmission, it is still covered under warranty. but if u have an intake, and the intake sucks some crap in your engine and blows the engine, it will not be covered cuz the intake is directly responsible. or if u have an aftermarket turbo or nitrous and your synchro breaks, the break will have been caused by the major increase in horsepower and will not be covered. but if u have a big turbo and the latch on your glovebox breaks, it is still covered, cuz there is no way in hell the turbocharger caused the glovebox to break. some dealerships will still try and be assholes, and tell u your intake made so much power it broke the synchro, even though thats not true. u can take them to court, but that will probably cost as much if not more than just paying to have it fixed. youre best bet is to find a "mod friendly" dealer.
in short, nothing u do will "void" your warranty, but certain mods can "nullify" certain parts of the warranty. |

Ya thats the best bet. Find a dealership that is flexible with modifications. Unfortunatlet the one i bought my car from is tight on that kind shit, so ill have to wait.
But it still does.nt mean that i cant hide a boost controller in my glovebox. heheheheh hahahahah lolololol. I cant stay with my arms tied for that long.

It all depends on the dealership, if you explain to them what you want to do and it seems reasonable and safe for your components, most dealerships won't have a problem with it. But if you go out running major boost with stock fuel system or major HP through the drivetrain or that sort of thing, they will be loathed to warrenty you.

This is something i found at www.fastwrx.com, hopefully it will help clear your thought on warrenty, but keep in mind that your still at the mercy of your dealership.
Do what i do, and bring the service manager a coffee everytime you bring the car in for service. he/she will love you for that. PEACE Since the days of the Ford Model T, people have been making custom modifications to their cars. The modifications presented here are, for the most part, very easy to do, and relatively foolproof. Still there is the potential that you could break something. Increasing the turbo boost needs to be done with care; disregarding safe boost practices can result in a blown engine. Even doing all the right things, when you get into very high levels of horsepower, you are stressing your engine to levels that were never planned at the factory, and parts are more likely to wear out or break. Be aware that some of these modifications may void your factory warranty. The law says that the car company has to prove that the breakage was directly caused by the aftermarket modification in order to deny a warranty claim, and that seems unlikely for most of the simpler modifications. Still, if you pump 400 horsepower through a transmission designed to handle 227, and the transmission breaks, it’s probably not the manufacturer’s fault. Despite the law, different dealerships may vary on how accepting they are of warranty work on modified cars. Some shops are more conservative; others sponsor race cars right out of their dealerships, and are more forgiving of modified cars. We suggest you contact dealerships in your area to find out their policies. (“Hi, um, I want to…er, I’ve got this…friend…who wants to upgrade his car…”)

Well like its already been said. If a dealership doesn't want to fix something like a bad tranny, or something mechanical not working because of an intake, then tell them to kiss your ass. Its not a dealership rule, its SUBARU who writes the book on the warrenty stuff. Don't let some cheap prick at a certain dealership try to cheat you out of working on your car. Do what I did, threaten to call SOA and they usually help ya without much of a problem.
The motor in my mirror stoped working, and they tried to say my aftermarket Clutch had something to do with it. Go figure.

International law states that only modifications that can be proved, by the AUTHORISED dealer to have DIRECTLY cause the damage, can void warrenty. All other mods are to the owners direct disclouser. -PERIOD.
