I own a 1998 Cavalier and I need help...
I just had new tires put on and both wheel bearings replaced. I have had a problem in the past with the noice of this car...even when I got the car. The noise -- as I quote from a repair guy - "is road noise"... I have had this car in and out of shops in my area. The car runs fine, the noise is unbearable and the brakes will lock up every now and again. I have discovered that the tires that I have just bought - 3,000 miles ago - top of the line tires are shot...I was recently told that It maybe my driveshaft that is doing it... I would like to also add that when I turn a sharp turn that the steering wheel will click and then is fine but the car still sounds like a thrashing machine...let me know your thoughts, any and all are appreciated... Re: Help needed
Installing tires on backwards produces a very audible hum that destroys the tires. Having low tire pressure also ruins tires.
IMO, it sounds like your tie rods need some adjusting. Also, if your bearings are making grinding noises on turns, then your car may be dangerous to be driving. It's likely the mechanic did not know what he was doing. Last edited by deadBird; 09-11-2005 at 10:13 PM. |

Re: Re: Help needed
i wouldnt take anymore advice from that guy that told you your driveshaft may be causing the noise, ya know, since cavaliers dont have driveshafts

Re: Help needed
^^ You'd be surprised how many mechanics call constant velocity shafts,... drive shafts. But CV shafts can make noise and cause vibrations aswell. They make a clicking noise when they are going. Then in my rare case, no noise but when you lower a car, you tend to break shit.
