would you buy one twice?

Hello all, in my endless search for a replacement for my aging 97 Stratus, I came across a newer model for what seems like a good price. My strat has an auto and the 2.4L, with power locks and windows, everything else (except tinted windows) is stock. Great shape, driven it 35K miles without so much as a hickup. I'm aproaching 100K miles, so hence my need to replace (i know the tranny is gonna drop on me soon).

Anyways, back on topic, I can get a 2002 Stratus SE, with power windows and locks, and 53K miles for less than $6000. Car is in great shape as well, no leaks, clean in and out. Is this a good deal? Every other car I've driven in my price range and less than 60K miles, comes up lacking when compared to my strat (handling, ride, looks, 4cyl performance with auto, etc...). If you had the chance, would anyone here move from one base 2.4L stratus to a newer one without much trepidation?? Do the newer ones suffer from the same issues as the older style, like head gaskets, tranny issues, etc?

Re: would you buy one twice?

I've got a 2000 SE Stratus with the 2.4L and haven't had one problem. Not the fastest but very reliable from my experience. I paid $6000 out the door. Cash is the best way to go of course. Still your choice dude.

Re: would you buy one twice?

I currently have one of each. A '99 and a '01, both are SE, 4 door, 2.4, automatic cars. Both are great, but the '01 drives nicer. A little bigger, smoother car.

Cool Re: would you buy one twice?

And we thank you.... Really, why waste the time with a post like that?

Re: would you buy one twice?

I am curious as to why you feel that way. I am looking at one myself and would like to see what problems you have had with this car?

Re: would you buy one twice?

At 68K miles there have been several electrical issues; ie rear window, fan resistor, rear lights. The transmission developed a leak at 40k that is slow but a pain. Under powered with the 2.4 engine. Have had to replace several front suspension pieces. They are easy to steal as I discovered a few months back.

Well then it seems to be that your only problem with them is that you need to take your foot off of the firewall and stop beating it. Even the most high end sports car will fail under constant abuse man.

Re: would you buy one twice?

HUH??? What abuse? My wife drives it like a little old lady. I have my own car to "abuse". It's just not well made IMHO.

Re: would you buy one twice?

I have owned alot of cars- and I have to say I love my 97 Stratus. It's simply a great car. Good performance, good look, comfortable, well handling. And kicking it around 203k miles- with no major parts replacements.

So I would deff. buy again. Now, I have no experience with that year of Stratus. But I have only heard good things in reviews, about how Chrysler really beefed things up to compete in the Sedan market.
