Angry Brake & Turn Signal Lights

Today I popped open my dash to adjust the radio. Unfortunately, after putting the dash back together, my brake lights and my turn signals stopped working. I think it might be a pulled wire bundle or clip because I checked a few fuses and they looked just fine.

Here are the symptoms:
- brake lights do not work; however, the rear LED center strip works.
- turn signals do not work inside or out (and no click when signal level is depressed)

Fortunately, the headlights, running lights and high beams still work on the Blazer. I'd look in my manual, but I am out of town and need to go on a 400 mile trip tomorrow to get back. Any information regarding which wire or which relay could be bad would be much appreciated.

Thanks for the help!

Re: Brake & Turn Signal Lights

The flasher modules are under the center knee bolster area at the bottom of the dash unde the radio.

You might have knocked their connections off.

Opened up the dash today to look for the connector. I couldn't find any loose wires. Where exactly should I be looking? Under the black plastic trim next to the center console?

Thankfully the center strip was working and I made it back... but would like to try to fix this tonight before going to work/school tomorrow. Thanks for the advice.

Under the center knee bolster is the flasher modules.

Re: Brake & Turn Signal Lights

Under the center knee bolster inside the metal shield surrounding the steering column? After taking off the bolster how do I get into the area where the modules are located?

Re: Brake & Turn Signal Lights

What should I be looking to plug in and where? I see the modules, the only thing holding on the cover is the parking brake but i can manuever it pretty much out of the way. There is one small green connecter but i can't see any other loose wires. Is this the connector i'm looking for? If so, where do i plug it in?

Re: Brake & Turn Signal Lights

The Haynes manual says that the turn signal switch assembly in models 1999 and later is actually behind the glove box.

Apparently I don't know what the knee bolster is. I assumed it was the area infront of your knees since a few automakers have added knee bolster airbags and they can be found in that location.

What should I be looking for? Do I need to take out the glove box and locate the signal switch assembly to see if the there is a loose wire there?

I really appreciate the help.

Re: Brake & Turn Signal Lights

the knee bolster is under the center section under the heater controls. Remove it and the flashers should be behind it.

Re: Brake & Turn Signal Lights

Alright, I took it off and all I see is an ecu like unit. I haven't found the signal switch assembly. Do I need to take off the large panel that comprises the remainder of the dash and goes around the airbag? What should I be looking for? I even took out the climate controls to see if it was below it.

Should I take off the glove box and look there?

Re: Brake & Turn Signal Lights

Thanks for the help. I was able to 'fix' it before heading on a trip this weekend. Just got back - sorry for the delay. After tracing all the wires I simply pushed all the connectors together - from the steering wheel to the turn signal clicker behind the glove box. Something was just loose. However, I'm starting to have intermittant problems with the instrument cluster... Sometimes after start up, the needles will all pin out and warning lights will go on such as ABS, EBrake, etc.... and the engine will die. Flaky ECU? Should I disconnect the battery and try to reset it?
