1999 Montana Power Sliding Door

I own a 1999 Montana that in the last 4 weeks the power right sliding door stopped working. What happens is the door opens a bit than stops and if button is pushed again it opens a bit more than stops. Sometimes it will actually close door if my kids pull closed to within a couple inches, and other times it will close than re-open as well. I had a dealer look at it and they say motor needs to be replaced at 700 CDN plus labour of 300.00. My question is do I have any other options? Are there 3rd party companies who make motor? Is it possible to have motor rewound as others have told me this may be possible? HELP any answers would be great as with 5 kids, this door is killing them to manually open and close as even with kill switch for power to the door off, it is a challenge for my younger kids. I have been also told I can not disconnect motor either and stuff so it could be permanantly manuel is this correct? Thanks.

Re: 1999 Montana Power Sliding Door

Have you tried resetting the door? I've found that when my door acts up, resetting it usually fixes odd behavior.

To reset it, close the side door and "lock out" the door using the overhead console button. Pull the radio fuse from the passenger side dash fuse panel (open door to see it). It's a 10A fuse 4th up from the bottom towards the middle IIRC. With the fuse removed, wait 30 seconds. Reinstall fuse and wait 10 seconds. Then switch the lock out button back off. Open the door using any of the buttons or key fob. Let it open all the way, then close. Open and close it a total of 3 times.

See if that helps. If that doesn't, there is a diagnostic mode you can get the door to enter into and that may tell you more. One step at a time though.
