Three step pearl painjob

Hi Guys,

After seeing a lot of you guys use Cobra Colour Three-step Pearls (like the Lamborgini colours) I got jealous and wanted to try and emulate the effect since I cannot get the Cobra colours stuff here in the UK.

Now obviously the top two layers are clear and pearl but its the basecoat that I'm curious about. From your descriptions its a matt solid colour, but is there anything special about it? Is it fluorescent? Or metallic? Or is it just a solid colour that is the same shade as the pearl?

Cheers

Farrokh

When I used CC Giallo Orion Pearl on my Porsche CGT, the basecoat was a matt butter-cup yellow. Not glossy or metallic or anything. In fact, the pearl coat was a slightly lighter shade of yellow, but it was transparent and assumed the color of the basecoat.

Hope this helps!

Thats great, thanks!

So the pearl paint is a tinted clear colour with pearl added, rather than just a clear with coloured pearl? (Try saying that fast )

Cheers

Yes, with mine at least. The midcoat was simply a ton of whiteish-gold pearl suspended in a yellow tinted clear. Laid down really smooth (still a little matt, though) Once I cleared it w/ Tamiya clear, the pearl shone like the sun!

Re: Three step pearl painjob

In regards to Giallo Orion Pearl being comprised of a yellow color basecoat and yellow pearl midcoat, the Gallardo's counterpart, Giallo Midas Pearl, is quite different in that the base color is bright yellow while the midcoat is a translucent alabaster white pearl. Both colors look similar but take differents routes to get there.

Cheers guys, thanks for the help.
I'm just still curious as to why the pearl midcoat dries slightly matt.

Cheers
