engine wont keep running

we have tried many different things on our 1984 944 and the engine wont keep running. sometimes it will fire and run for just a couple of seconds and sometimes it wont even start. does anyone know what the problem might be?
it was sitting for 6-7 months could old gas have clogged the fuel filter and keep it form getting gas?
thanks

Re: engine wont keep running

I've run into the same problem. First drain the fuel, it will have begun to turn into kerosene. Just unplug the fuel line from the back of the fuel filter. That way you can also check your fuel filter. Also check the MAF sensor. A lot of them are extremely dirty and they need to be adjusted. We rebuilt ours, adjusted the tensioner, and it runs amazingly well now.

If that doesnt work, it could be another fuel delivery problem. First thing to always do is know you're getting spark.

I have a 86 944 that had a similar problem it would start sometimes and run rough then die. It turned out the fuel pressure regulater was bad. Check out www.clarks-garage.com and click on the garage manual.
