Hi fellowss,
How is the quality of 1/24 Protar Ferrari 250 GTO? And what to expect in this kit? THanks. Roger

While I have not built my Protar 250 GTO (nor my Gunze nor my Italeri..) I have to say I was pretty impressed w/the Protar kit when I got it for what amounted to a steal (LOL buying import kits while visiting Detroit can be lucrative!). The body shape seems very good, the opening doors look like they'll fit very nice and snug, and the molded wire wheels are amazingly well reproduced.
Hopefully someone who has built one can add to this assessment.

Well, the detail is wondrous, the opening panels are great, and I love the included metal transfers for just about everything (including the window trim) BUT the body's dimensions are a little fuzzy compared to the gorgeous Gunze Sanyo kit.
It's really a bit of a tradeoff. The interior, engine bay, and engine detail is superior to the Gunze Sanyo, but the Gunze Sanyo's body detail and accuracy, plus the photoetch wire wheels and chassis detail, make it a hard decision.

Well as others have said earlier it is really a mixed bag...
Interior on Protar kit is fine, seats are far better than on any other plastic kit of GTO, dash is ok, but inner door panels are molded with doors, not good. Chassis is nice, but it is probably a bit too wide. Both front and rear suspensions are nice, detail is maybe a little soft, but OK when age of this kit is considered. Engine looks nice, but seems to be a little bit out of scale, separate carburettors are a nice touch though. Worst part of this kit is the body, it has nothing to do with beautiful lines of the original, It is just plain wrong. Conclusion: I'd take Gunze or Italeri GTO before Protar any day. -Niko

Re: Quality of Protar Ferrari 250 GTO?
What I'm looking at is combining the Italeri and Protar models (or the Gunze body) to get a decent model.
The Protar rear end is way too squarish and the window frames way too thick. Engine appears pretty good as does the suspension. I'll be using aftermarket wheels or the Gunze wheels. |

Buy a GTO, but buy the Gunze !
If I could I would buy the Gunze, mainly because the shape of the body is the best, for the rest you can work out small parts and details... |
