98 Ram 2500 5.9l diesel engine dies intermittantly

I bought a 98 Ram 2500 5.9l Cummins Turbo Diesel with 120k miles. Problem is the engine will completely die with no electrical warning lights or chimes. This happens intermittantly. The most common time it occurs is after backing, putting the truck in drive, turning the steering wheel sharply to the right, and trying to drive off. Everything dies, no electrical systems work. Put the truck in neutral and it starts right up. Also happens when pulling out from a stop into a right or left turn, but most commonly into a sharp right turn. It also happened when backing out of a parking slot and shifting into drive. Another time it happened to my wife when she was accelerating onto a righthand onramp onto the interstate. Mechanic we bought the truck from has tried to duplicate the problem without much luck. I searched this entire forum and could not find any threads with a similar problem. Any suggestions?

It sounds like something in the steering column is rubbing the ignition wires causing them to short out and kill the motor
